Hogan never really weakened his grip and turned his left hand to the left. He changed from a superficially strong grip to a strong grip. There is a very good reason why Hogan said in M F that “maybe somebody will develop a more powerful grip one day”. He knew what it was

@kevskigolf That’s because he’s showing Hogan’s grip BEFORE he wrote “Five Lessons” which was stronger then. Jim clearly stated this is the grip he’d want to see most amateurs use.

That’s “Mr. Hogan” to you there kiddo. And if you knew how the golf swing works, you would understand that his clubs did not compensate for a hook. But yes drink beer and have fun while playing, leave the rest up to the PGA members who actually know what they are talking about.

@kevskigolf i’ll have to review five lessons. thanks for reply

  5. kevskigolf says:

its subtle but its there.. its actually quite difficult to balance the club in the left hand only WITHOUT letting the thumb and upper part of the hand lean acrossto the right to c-balance( as Mr Mcclean is doing). look at the mdle picture bottom of page 21. try to do that (look where the left thumb is in 5 lessons, to the left of the shaft, in this video, it would be to the right and that is counterbalancing the weight of the club. you wouldnt need to do this if the butt is under the left pad

  6. nsaminder says:

Everyone’s hands are radically different in both physiology and capabilities.

Your going to suck at golf for the rest of your short life. So just go out there and have fun, drink beer, look at nature and go home. Don’t worry about some little dude who couldn’t hit straight unless he played specially doctored super heavy clubs that compensated for a severe hook.

Find your own swing & what works for you. Hogan was a freak.

Only thing good here is using the pinky & fingers close to it .

  7. steckleinjr says:

@kevskigolf check your eyes. i think you’re wrong on this one, chief!

  8. kevskigolf says:

he doesnt do the grip exercise at :50 correctly. hogan showed the butt of the grip under the fleshy part of the left hand. the middle drawing on page 21 of 5 lesssons shows the grip under the fleshy pad, not on top of it.
